Conde Nast Traveler intern Lisa Gartner got wind of a pretty revamped choc shop in Switz:"Our November Swiss special argued there was more to the country than 'chocs, clocks, and cheese,' but my response to Switzerland is downright Pavlovian: mention Switzerland, induce drool. So I'm more than happy about the re-opening of Basel’s most famous chocolate shop, Confiserie Bachman. After a major renovation, the thousand-square-foot space now has glass counters, cool white walls, mod mirrors, and a quaint covered passageway where outdoor café seating will be. The store pics are fueling my desire to do other trendy Swiss things: buy a cowbell or this riff on the classic army knife, or wrap myself in a Zurich-designed silk dress. Or maybe I’ll just order some of that chocolate "

Anyone who's visited Basel during their famous trade fairs (jewelry/watch and art), rarely has a chance to wander the quaint side streets in the old city which are chock-a-block with patisseries and bakeries, chocolate shops, and a whole world of chic boutiques for fashion and home furnishings. It's a mini food city. The department stores are like the ones in Tokyo with gourmet take-out and supermarkets all in one place.
