Another San Francisco Treat: Clairesquares

TS_claires-squares-sf.jpgAlso in SF I was lucky to find—and eat!—one of Clairesquares' melt-in-your-mouth cookies. Composed of a buttery shortbread base, smooth caramel center and Belgian chocolate top, it's no surprise the sweet treats are Irish (like me!): they're whipped up by Cork-born Claire Keane in a green-certified San Fran bakery. She makes them in mini and confects other Eire-inspired goodies like flapjacks, shortbread sticks and brandy butter--buyable at Bi-Rite, the Ferry Building, and online. Also check out this crazy Bay Area jello art, and our May insert, packed with more takeaway foodie finds. Yum!

My mother, also from Cork, used to make these. I will send this to her, and request that they be called helensquares
