Indianapolis isn't thought of as an art destination, but next year, the Indianapolis Museum of Art will host an interesting exhib of 75 paintings, drawings and found-object sculptures by the artist Thornton Dial. Meant to make a statement on the tradition of black vernacular art in the South, Dial's work like the above consists of mattress coils, chicken wire, clothing and can lids layered with enamel and spray paint on canvas mounted on wood. His textured paintings and sculptures like "Lost Cows" (after the jump) are certainly evocative--do you like?
